What is Your Why? Discover What’s Getting in the Way?
Happy SPRING. Ready for a refresh? We hear it all the time—find your why. It’s the foundation of every lasting change, the fuel that keeps you going when motivation dips. But what happens when you struggle to define it? When you can’t quite put your finger on what’s truly driving you?
If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to find your why, you’re not alone. The truth is, most people don’t have a lack of why—they have too much in the way to see it clearly.
What’s Blocking You?
🔹 Distractions – Life is full of noise. Work, family, social media, and a million other responsibilities pull your focus away from what you actually want. If you don’t create space to reflect, your why gets buried under all the "shoulds."
🔹 Fear of Commitment – A strong why comes with responsibility. If you fully commit to your why, it means making real changes. And let’s be honest, change is uncomfortable.
🔹 Waiting for Perfection – You don’t need a dramatic, movie-worthy reason to pursue your goals. Your why doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to matter to you.
🔹 External Pressure – Are you chasing a goal because it excites you? Or because you think you should? If your why is built around what others expect, it won’t hold up when things get tough.
🔹 Lack of Self-Belief – If deep down you don’t believe you can succeed, you might avoid defining your why altogether. That way, if you don’t reach your goal, it won’t feel like failure—it’ll feel like you never really started.
How to Break Through
✅ Start with Your Feelings – Instead of thinking about what you want (like weight loss or better health), ask yourself why you want it. What will achieving this goal allow you to feel? Stronger? More in control? More present for your family? That’s where your why lives.
✅ Write It Down – Your why should be clear, personal, and visible. Put it somewhere you’ll see daily—on your fridge, mirror, or as your phone wallpaper.
✅ Dig Deeper – When you think you’ve found your why, ask yourself, Is this deep enough? If it feels surface-level, keep going. Instead of "I want to lose weight," try "I want to be healthy enough to play with my kids without getting winded."
✅ Check Your Alignment – Does your why excite and inspire you? If not, you might be chasing a goal that isn’t truly yours.
✅ Talk It Out – Sometimes, clarity comes from conversation. A good coach (ahem, like me!) can help you untangle the thoughts in your head and pinpoint what really drives you.
Final Thoughts
Finding your why isn’t about coming up with the “right” answer—it’s about finding the one that feels right to you. And once you do? Everything else starts to fall into place.
If you’re still struggling to find your why, let’s talk! Whether in a support group or a one-on-one session, we’ll get to the heart of what’s holding you back and map out a path forward.
