The Power of the Pause: Mindfulness in Making Positive Food and Activity Choices

Hello Everyone!

As the founder of Always On Your Side Coaching, I specialize in helping you reach your health and wellness goals. Today, we're diving into the topic of mindfulness, especially how taking a moment to pause can significantly impact the food choices you make and the excuses you may use to avoid physical activity. # 13 in the Power of 13 is Pause and Be Mindful.

The Immediate Choice

We've all been there—you're hungry, maybe even a bit stressed, and you grab the first snack you see. It's often not the healthiest option, but it's quick and convenient. Similarly, when it's time to exercise, it's so easy to say, "I'm too busy" or "I'll start tomorrow."

The Power of the Pause

Imagine a different scenario. Before you grab that snack or decide to skip your workout, you pause. In that moment of pause, you become aware of your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. This is mindfulness in action—a powerful tool that empowers you to make healthier choices.

Why It Matters

Nutrition When you pause to think before you eat, you can consider:

  • Is this food nourishing my body?

  • Am I really hungry, or am I eating out of boredom or stress?

  • What healthier options do I have?

  • How will I feel emotionally and physically after I eat this?

By doing so, you're more likely to choose a balanced meal over fast food, or an apple over a bag of chips.

Activity

When it comes to exercise, pausing allows you to reflect on:

  • How will I feel after this workout?

  • What's holding me back from being active?

  • Is my excuse valid or is it a barrier I can overcome?

This moment of reflection can be the difference between skipping your workout and getting it done, leading to a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Tips for Mindful Choices

  1. Take Deep Breaths: Before making a decision, take three deep breaths. This simple act can bring clarity.

  2. Have a Go-To Healthy Option: Always keep a healthier alternative handy for those moments you're tempted by unhealthy food.

  3. Schedule It: Add your workout to your calendar just like any other appointment. When the time comes, consider why you scheduled it in the first place.

Final Thoughts

Mindfulness isn't just a buzzword; it's a practical tool you can incorporate into your daily routine. By taking the time to pause and reflect, you give yourself the gift of making better choices for your well-being.

Remember, I'm always on your side. Till next time,
