Our mantra this week is:
MORE Stretching ~LESS Stressing
We are in week 6 of our summer series AOYS Power of 13.
The 13 things I as a Health and Wellness Coach know you have to do to lead a healthy lifestyle. These are the guidelines we use in the AOYS Support Groups and 1:1 coaching sessions.
#1 ½ our portions size
#2 move 30 minutes a day
#3 Sleep at least 8 hours
#4 Track your food and your feelings
#5 Double your vegetables
And this week we are talking about #6 Stretch for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day?
What is difficult about stretching?
Facts: Why stretching is important
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints as well as balance. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way.
Why before exercise?
Stretching prior to exercise allows the muscles to loosen up and become resistant to the impact they are about to undergo, thereby reducing the chance of injury.
Why after exercise?
Stretching can help reduce the accumulation of lactic acid throughout the body. It also relaxes tense muscles. Stretching Limits Muscle and Joint Strain
In Our Support Groups:
*We talked about how to fit it in each day
*Habit stacking it with daily activities
*How people who stretch have turned it into a habit and how they feel
