Clear the Clutter Summary

Week 2: Clear the Clutter Summary

AOYS’s Week 2 was a great week and we all left with a Actionable commitment if not Several.

Our Mantra for this week is: “The first step to getting what I want is having the courage to get rid of what I don’t”

Where to start? 1st understanding why we have the clutter and how it affects us is super important.

Why do we have to clutter or collect things? You collect things for a number of reasons–maybe you think you’ll need to use it later, it has sentimental value, or you spent good money on it so you feel you need to keep the item, even if you haven’t touched or used it in weeks, months, or years.

How it affects our brains: studies showed that physical clutter in your surroundings competes for your attention, resulting in decreased performance and increased stress.

How Does It Affect Our Weight loss? Clutter clogs energy and causes us to feel overwhelmed and out of control.

Clutter is not just physical.  Our digital world can be just as overwhelming.

Where to start?

There are so many areas and the hardest thing is trying to do it all at once.  Most of the Groups this week agreed that “one thing at a time is important” and take your time.  It’s not going anywhere! But make a schedule.  If you have 7 closets figure out how long they will take and then plan when each one can get done.  Next remember, you have to make a mess to clear the clutter.

Make a list

Kitchen: Counters: Spice cabinet, Pantry, Fridge and freezer. Expiration dates and healthy or options that are causing issues for instance even foods that are good for us are not necessarily helping us in our weight loss if we are overeating them.

Closets:  Write them all down then tackle one or 2 a week.  Clothes Get rid of things that are too big and TOO small. Get rid of books you will never read again. Have you touched in in the last 6 months?

Bathrooms: Makeup, hair products, cleaning products.

Medicine cabinets: Expiration dates and natural choices.

Phone, Tablets, Computers:  Start with apps, phone numbers, email and texts.  Videos and pictures.  Unsubscribe unsubscribe !

We all left with an actionable commitment and chose where we would start.

We chatted about what we chose for our January Focus for the 12 months to a Healthy lifestyle.

Some examples:

  • Water
  • Prep
  • reading
  • meditating
  • getting organized.

And so much more!

Suggested TV Show:  Netflix Get Organized with The Home Edit.  They also have 2 books.  Inspiring to get started.
